The fungal diseases of tree, palm and vine fruit crops gathered under this group: pome fruits such as apple and pear, stone fruits, citrus, banana, mango, avocado, olive, grape, date palm, chestnut and related orchard and plantation tree crops. Included are the scab, canker, rot and blight pathogens that attack the leaf, bark, fruit and root systems of these long-lived perennial crops, and the broad-host root rot and dieback pathogens most familiar in the literature as diseases of orchard and plantation trees even where they also affect other hosts. Distinct from the diseases of annual field crops such as cereals, legumes and vegetables, which are replanted every season rather than tended as a standing orchard or plantation.
