Botryosphaeria stevensii

Botryosphaeria stevensii, also known as apple sphaeropsis, is a fungal plant pathogen that causes cankers and branch dieback, in severe cases affecting a large portion of a tree's canopy and killing entire plants. Its original host is apple, on which it was first described from fallen fruit in Great Britain in 1836, and it also affects junipers, including Rocky Mountain juniper, eastern redcedar and Chinese juniper, as well as grapevines. Management relies on resistant cultivars, well-draining soil, adequate light and plant spacing to reduce the moisture that favors infection.
