Asperisporium caricae

Asperisporium caricae is an ascomycete fungus found across North and South America that causes black spot disease on papaya, Carica papaya, producing dark blackish brown to black lesions on leaves and fruit at any stage of development. It is regarded as an emerging agricultural concern in tropical papaya-growing regions, where it has been documented as a newly recognized threat to fruit quality and yield.
