Agricultural chemistry is the branch of applied chemistry, spanning organic chemistry and biochemistry, that studies the chemical structures and reactions involved in producing, protecting and using crops and livestock. Its applied side aims chiefly at raising agricultural yields and improving product quality, work that the field itself recognizes carries both advantages and disadvantages. It draws together plant biochemistry, soil chemistry and environmental science, and today extends from traditional chemical intervention into modern biotechnological approaches to farming.
