Sir John Bennet Lawes (1814 to 1900) was an English entrepreneur and agricultural scientist who founded an experimental farm at his home, Rothamsted Manor, that grew into Rothamsted Research. There he developed a superphosphate fertilizer that marked the beginning of the chemical fertilizer industry.
