The rice arm of the Green Revolution, founded in the Philippines in 1960 by the Ford and Rockefeller foundations. IRRI's IR8 rice of 1966, the so-called miracle rice, doubled and tripled paddy yields across Asia, and its genebank holds the world's largest collection of rice diversity, over 130,000 accessions.
