Fazle Hasan Abed

Sir Fazle Hasan Abed was a Bangladeshi development pioneer, born 27 April 1936 and died 20 December 2019, who sold his London flat and returned to newly independent Bangladesh after the 1971 Liberation War to found BRAC in 1972. He grew BRAC into one of the world's largest non-governmental organizations, expanding from Bangladesh to ten countries across Asia and Africa with programs in education, healthcare, microfinance and agricultural development, and was awarded the 2015 World Food Prize for reducing poverty through that work.
