Kankrej Cattle

The Kankrej is an Indian and Pakistani breed of zebu cattle, a dual-purpose animal used for both draught work and milk. It originates in the arid Rann of Kutch region of Gujarat, India, and is also found in Rajasthan and in Pakistan Tharparkar district, where it is known as Kankaraj. The breed has a grey coat ranging from silver to dark tones, dark skin, and horns on both sexes; bulls average 590 kilograms and cows 431 kilograms. From around 1870 Kankrej cattle were exported to Brazil, where they contributed to the development of the Guzera breed, which in turn influenced the later development of the American Brahman.
