The CGIAR research center for the crops of the dry tropics, founded in 1972 and headquartered at Patancheru, Hyderabad, India. Its mandate crops are the ones the driest farms depend on and the big breeding programs long overlooked: sorghum, pearl millet, finger millet and the small millets, chickpea, pigeonpea and groundnut. Where the Green Revolution centers worked on irrigated wheat and rice, ICRISAT works on the rainfed margins where the harvest is least certain.
