Michel A. J. Georges, born in 1959, is a Belgian biologist and professor at the University of Liege known for his research in animal genetics and genomics and for developing tools and strategies to make genome analysis more efficient for livestock improvement. His work identified genes affecting single traits, such as polledness and double-muscling, as well as complex multi-gene traits including milk yield, fertility and disease resistance, and he helped pioneer marker-assisted selection and open the field of animal epigenetics.
