Jose Miguel Aguilera is a Chilean food engineer and professor at the Pontificia Universidad Catolica de Chile, recognized for pioneering work establishing the microstructure of food and advancing the scientific understanding behind processed food products. He became the first Chilean member of the United States National Academy of Engineering, received awards from the John Simon Guggenheim Foundation, the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation and the Institute of Food Technologists, and was named the 2019 GCHERA World Agriculture Prize laureate for his lifetime contributions to food engineering education and research.
