George Stewart Henry

George Stewart Henry was a Canadian farmer and politician who served as the tenth Premier of Ontario from 1930 to 1934. Elected to the Ontario legislature in 1913 as the Conservative member for East York after a career in farming, he was appointed Minister of Agriculture in 1918 and Minister of Public Works and Highways in 1923, a portfolio in which he oversaw a major expansion of the province's highway system before becoming premier. His government did not provide the relief measures many Ontarians expected during the Great Depression and lost the 1934 election as a result.
