Agriculture Ministers and Government Officials

Figures whose defining agricultural role was holding a national or subnational government office over farming and food policy: cabinet ministers and secretaries of agriculture, deputy and junior ministers, heads of national agricultural agencies and departments, and senior officials of intergovernmental agricultural bodies such as the Food and Agriculture Organization and the CGIAR research centers. It does not include colonial-era administrators serving an occupying power's agricultural department (see Colonial and Historical Agricultural Administrators), private-sector agribusiness founders and executives, or the leaders of farmer cooperatives and advocacy organizations, even when such a figure also held elected or advisory office; the deciding fact is whether running an agriculture ministry or an intergovernmental agricultural agency was the career's defining public role.
