Elwood Mead (1858 to 1936) was an American engineer, professor and government official who led the United States Bureau of Reclamation from 1924 until his death. Under his direction the bureau carried out some of its most ambitious irrigation and dam projects, including the Hoover, Grand Coulee and Owyhee dams, work that reshaped water management for farming across the American West.
