Edna Westbrook Trigg

Edna Westbrook Trigg was an American educator who became Texas's first county home demonstration agent and a pioneer of home demonstration work in American agricultural extension. Chosen by the United States Department of Agriculture in late 1911 to organize home demonstration clubs in Milam County, Texas, she formed tomato clubs the following summer in which girls between ten and eighteen each cultivated a tenth of an acre of tomatoes, selling part of the crop and canning the rest. After Texas established its Agricultural Extension Service under new state and federal legislation, Trigg became the state's first county home demonstration agent in 1916, and during the First World War she led a drive to make Denton County, Texas self sufficient in food.
