The scientists, growers and plant introducers whose defining work concerns fruit, vegetable, ornamental and tree or vine crops grown in an orchard, grove, vineyard or garden setting rather than a field grain, fiber or forage crop, spanning citrus and subtropical fruit breeding, plant exploration and introduction of new fruit and ornamental species, and the pioneering growers who established major orchard, citrus and vineyard enterprises. Distinct from Agronomy and Crop Science, which gathers the practice and management of field crop agriculture generally, and from Plant Breeding and Genetics, which gathers field crop variety development.
