Agricultural Carbon Sequestration

Agricultural carbon sequestration is the capture and long-term storage of atmospheric carbon dioxide in farmed soil and vegetation, generally through practices that build soil organic matter, plant perennial cover, or preserve trees and hedgerows on farmed land, so that farmland functions as a carbon sink rather than solely as a carbon source. It has drawn growing policy and carbon-market interest as a possible partial offset for agriculture's own greenhouse gas emissions, though how reliably and how permanently farmed soil actually stores that carbon is a live scientific and measurement question.
