Luis Planas is a Spanish politician and former diplomat who has served as Spain's Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food since June 2018 under Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez, the longest continuous holder of the post in the current ministry's history to that point. A member of the Spanish Socialist Workers' Party, he earlier served twice as regional minister of agriculture in Andalusia, sat in the European Parliament from 1987 to 1993, and worked as Spain's ambassador to Morocco and as its permanent representative to the European Union before returning to domestic politics. He was born in Valencia in 1952.
