Cirilo Canovas Garcia

Cirilo Canovas Garcia was a Spanish agricultural engineer and politician born in Requena in 1899 and dying in 1973. Trained as an agricultural engineer, he entered the state agronomic service, managed agricultural recovery in Franco's northern and eastern military zones during the Civil War, and became general director of the Agriculture Ministry in 1952 before serving as Minister of Agriculture from February 1957 to July 1965. His tenure enacted the Law of Forests and the Law of Improvable Estates and developed land consolidation, and he later served as president of the Agricultural Credit Bank.
