Cantaloupe

A muskmelon (Cucumis melo, of the Cantalupensis or Reticulatus group depending on regional naming convention) believed to have originated in Africa or Asia and developed into its familiar netted-rind, orange-fleshed form through long cultivation and selection, with the name traditionally traced to Cantalupo, a former papal estate near Rome where the melon was said to have been grown after arriving from Armenia. It is grown in warm, dry climates worldwide, with the United States, particularly California, and countries across the Mediterranean, Central Asia and China among the leading commercial producers. The fruit is eaten fresh as a table melon and is one of the most widely traded and consumed melon types globally, distinct from watermelon's different botanical family and flesh structure.
