Puccinia striiformis

Puccinia striiformis is a rust fungus in the order Pucciniales, first described by Westendorp in 1854, that causes stripe rust, also called yellow rust, on wheat and related grasses. Following a taxonomic revision in 2010, Puccinia striiformis in the strict sense is understood to infect cereal and grass genera including Aegilops, Elymus, Hordeum and Triticum, affecting both winter and spring wheat. Infections can cut yields by as much as 40 percent, and the disease is common across Europe while becoming an increasingly serious problem in Australia and in wheat-growing regions of Pakistan such as Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
