Pythium debaryanum

Pythium debaryanum is a species of water mould in the family Pythiaceae, described in 1874 and classified within the Oomycota. It is a cause of damping off, a disease in which the organism's hyphae penetrate the cell walls of seedlings and young plants, killing them before or shortly after emergence. Its host range is broad, including peanuts, beets, eucalyptus, tobacco, pine, tomatoes and soybeans among many other wild and cultivated plants, making it a widespread pathogen across both agricultural and forest nurseries.
