Phoma glomerata

Phoma glomerata is a fungus in the family Pleosporaceae and a common plant pathogen found in temperate environments worldwide. It causes phoma blight, leaf spots and root rot in a wide range of cultivated plants including grapes, tomatoes, apples, potatoes, peaches and various conifers, producing reddish brown leaf spotting from phytotoxins it releases. The species also has beneficial uses, parasitizing downy mildews as a biocontrol agent and producing pharmaceutical compounds, and it poses minimal risk to humans beyond rare infection in people with weakened immune systems.
