Oxyporus latemarginatus

Oxyporus latemarginatus is a shelf-forming fungus in the order Hymenochaetales, originally described in 1856 and placed in its current genus in 1966, that causes white rot in trees including apricot, avocado, citrus, peach, nectarine, sycamore and sweetgum. Although it resembles the true shelf fungi and polypores of the order Polyporales, it in fact belongs to the older, unrelated Hymenochaetales lineage. The species has accumulated at least fourteen scientific synonyms over its taxonomic history, and its fruiting bodies also serve as a food source for the pleasing fungus beetle and its larvae.
