Colletotrichum kahawae

Colletotrichum kahawae is a fungal plant pathogen, an asexually reproducing ascomycete, that causes coffee berry disease on Coffea arabica crops. Considered one of the major factors limiting Coffea arabica production across Africa, its current geographic range, the disease produces dark necrotic spots and causes green coffee berries to drop prematurely. It thrives in conditions of high humidity, relatively warm temperatures and high altitude, and because effective control measures are lacking there is concern it could spread to other coffee-producing regions such as South America with potentially severe consequences.
