A microscopic roundworm (Heterodera glycines) that forms cysts on soybean roots, stunting plants and reducing yield, often with no visible above ground symptoms until infestations are severe. It is the single most economically damaging pest of soybean in North America, causing greater cumulative yield loss than any soybean disease or insect, and its persistent, hard shelled cysts can remain viable in soil for years.

The soybean cyst nematode (SCN), Heterodera glycines, is a species of nematode and agricultural pest notable for being the most damaging to soybean crop yields in the U.S., targeting the roots of soybean and other legume plants. When infection is severe SCNs cause stunting, yellowing, impaired canopy development, and yield loss.
