Pseudomonas savastanoi

Pseudomonas savastanoi is a gram negative, plant pathogenic bacterium in the family Pseudomonadaceae that causes gall forming diseases across several distinct host-specific pathovars. Its best known form causes olive knot, the pathovar of greatest economic importance, in which the bacterium triggers tumor-like galls on infected olive trees by stimulating the plant's own production of the growth hormone indoleacetic acid, in a mechanism comparable to the way crown gall disease works in other plants. Other pathovars of the same bacterium cause similar gall diseases on ash trees, oleander and bean plants, making it a pathogen of several commercially and ornamentally important species that requires ongoing management wherever its host plants are grown.
