Oberhasli Goat

Oberhasli Goat is a Swiss dairy goat breed originating in the Bernese Oberland region of Switzerland, distinguished by a reddish-brown coat known as chamoisee, with black markings along the spine, face, legs and belly. It was developed as a dairy breed prized for rich, high-quality milk and a calm, tractable temperament, and was imported to the United States in the early to mid twentieth century, where American breeders further developed and registered the line. The American Dairy Goat Association recognizes Oberhasli as one of its standard dairy breeds, and it remains popular among small-scale dairy goat keepers for its manageable size, gentle disposition and consistent milk production. In Switzerland the breed is closely associated with its home region and remains part of the country's traditional alpine dairy goat husbandry.
