Morgan Horse

Morgan Horse is an American horse breed descended largely from a single foundation stallion, Figure, later known as Justin Morgan after the Vermont schoolteacher who owned him in the late eighteenth century, whose compact, versatile build and ability to reliably pass on his traits founded the breed. It is a relatively small but strong and versatile horse, historically used for farm work, harness driving and riding alike, prized for stamina, a good temperament and an unusually consistent type traceable to its single foundation sire. The Morgan Horse was influential in the development of several other American breeds, including the American Quarter Horse, the Standardbred and the Tennessee Walking Horse, through nineteenth century crossbreeding. It remains popular today for pleasure riding, driving and showing, and is recognized as the state animal of Vermont.
