Call Duck

A historic breed of small domestic duck, believed to have originated in the Netherlands, where the earliest descriptions and depictions of it date from the seventeenth century. It resembles some other duck breeds but is much smaller, with a round head and a very short bill; ducks (though not drakes) are very loquacious and noisy, with a piercing high-pitched call that can be heard from far away and from which the breed takes its name. In the past the Call duck was used as a decoy to lure wild ducks into traps.
