The Millennium Seed Bank Partnership, formerly the Millennium Seed Bank Project, is the largest ex situ plant conservation programme in the world, coordinated by the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew. Commenced in 1996 after a 1995 Millennium Commission grant, it is housed at Wakehurst Place, West Sussex, and stores seeds in underground frozen vaults as an insurance policy against the extinction of plants in the wild.
