Avocado

Fruits

The avocado is an evergreen tree native to the Americas, prized for its large, oily fruit, botanically a single-seeded berry. Its native range runs from Mexico to Peru, and archaeological evidence shows early human use across Central and South America dating back thousands of years. Mexico is the leading modern producer, supplying 25 percent of the 2024 world harvest of 11.2 million tonnes. The fruit of domestic varieties has smooth, buttery, golden-green flesh when ripe, and depending on the cultivar the skin may be green, brown, purplish or black.
