William Albert Albrecht (1888 to 1974) was chairman of the Department of Soils at the University of Missouri and an authority on the relationship between soil fertility and human and animal health. He connected poor-quality forage crops to ill health in the livestock feeding on them, developed the Base Cation Saturation Ratio, a formula for ideal ratios of exchangeable cations in soil, and served as president of the Soil Science Society of America in 1939.
