Rattan Lal, born in 1944, is an Indian-American soil scientist whose work focuses on regenerative agriculture and how soil management can help address global issues including climate change, food security and water quality. Considered a pioneer of soil-centric agricultural management for global food security and climate resilient farming, he has received the World Food Prize (2020), the Japan Prize (2019), the GCHERA World Agriculture Prize (2018) and the Glinka World Soil Prize (2018), among other honors.
