Niels Johannes Fjord, born April 27, 1825, in Holmsland, Denmark, and died January 4, 1891, was a Danish professor at the Royal Veterinary and Agricultural University who pioneered dairy and milk research in the mid-1800s. Based in Frederiksberg, he advanced agricultural science through his study of dairy farming and milk quality, and in 1883 he became the inaugural leader of the Landokonomisk Forsogslaboratorium, an agricultural experimental laboratory whose legacy long outlasted his death.
