Eric Yirenkyi Danquah

Eric Yirenkyi Danquah is a Ghanaian plant geneticist and professor of plant genetics at the University of Ghana who founded and directs the West Africa Centre for Crop Improvement, known as WACCI. Trained with a degree in agriculture from the University of Ghana and a plant breeding qualification from the University of Cambridge, he built WACCI into a major training program that has enrolled 160 doctoral students in plant breeding from 19 African countries and graduated 111 who now lead plant breeding programs at national and international agricultural research institutions across Africa; he served as the inaugural president of the African Plant Breeders Association from 2019 to 2023 and received the World Agriculture Prize in 2018.
