Agricultural and Extension Education Services

Seaman Asahel Knapp (1833 to 1911) was an American physician, college instructor and administrator who became a pioneer of agricultural extension work in the United States. As the second president of Iowa Agricultural College and later a U.S. Department of Agriculture demonstration agent in the South, he organized farmer-led demonstration plots, most notably a program that helped growers in Texas, Louisiana and neighboring states combat the boll weevil, work that helped lay the foundation for the country's Cooperative Extension system.
