Elliot Meyerowitz

Elliot Meyerowitz, born in 1951, is an American biologist and the George W. Beadle Professor of Biology at the California Institute of Technology, where he has been on the faculty since 1980. After beginning his career studying the fruit fly Drosophila, he became a leading figure in establishing the plant Arabidopsis thaliana as a model organism, and his research explains the genetic and molecular basis of plant hormone reception and of the pattern formation that shapes flower and shoot development. He shared the 2024 Wolf Prize in Agriculture and has also received the Balzan Prize.
