Duncan McNab McEachran

Duncan McNab McEachran was a Scottish-born Canadian veterinarian who became Canada's first chief veterinary inspector in 1885 and helped found two of Canada's earliest veterinary colleges. After graduating from Edinburgh Veterinary College in 1861 and emigrating to Canada West the following year, he helped establish the Upper Canada Veterinary School in Woodstock, Ontario in 1863, which became the Ontario Veterinary College, before relocating to Montreal and helping found the Montreal Veterinary College in 1866, later affiliated with McGill University. As Canada's first chief veterinary inspector he developed sanitary measures against livestock epidemics, and he also managed horse breeding ranches in Alberta; he was inducted into the Canadian Agricultural Hall of Fame in 1961 and designated a National Historic Person in 2016.
