Huaijun Zhou is a professor of animal science at the University of California, Davis, who specializes in poultry genetics and genomics, including immunogenetics, molecular genetics, functional genomics and bioinformatics. Over some twenty-five years of research into avian breeding and genetics, he has focused on genetic disease resistance in chickens to bacterial infections such as Campylobacter and Salmonella and viral infections including Newcastle disease and avian influenza, work aimed at breeding more robust poultry to improve food security for households worldwide. He directs the Feed the Future Innovation Lab for Genomics to Improve Poultry and received the National Academy of Sciences Prize in Food and Agriculture Sciences in 2023 for improving the fundamental understanding of livestock and poultry genomes.
