Botany and Plant Physiology

The scientists whose defining work is how a plant itself functions and develops rather than the breeding, disease resistance or field management of a named crop: plant anatomy, the physiology of flowering, dormancy, hormone signaling and light response, the taxonomic documentation of a region's flora and grasses, and the fundamental molecular mechanisms of plant growth and stress response studied for their own sake rather than as a step toward a specific bred variety. Distinct from Plant Breeding and Genetics and Plant Biotechnology, which gather figures whose work is directed at producing or engineering a specific crop outcome.
