An agricultural value chain is the full sequence of activities, from input supply and production through processing, storage, transport, marketing and final sale, that together add value to an agricultural product as it moves from the farm to the final consumer. Value-chain analysis is used in agricultural development policy to identify where farmers capture too little of a product's final value and where investment or organization, such as farmer cooperatives or contract farming, could shift that balance.
