The Nelore is a Brazilian breed of beef cattle of zebuine, or Bos indicus, type, descended from the Ongole breed of the modern Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. Its name comes from the district of Nellore in the former Madras Presidency, of which the Ongole region was once a part. It is among the most numerous cattle breeds in the world, and a naturally polled strain, the Nelore Mocho, is treated as a separate breed in Guatemala and Paraguay though not in Brazil itself.
