Nguni Cattle

The Nguni is a cattle breed indigenous to Southern Africa, a hybrid descended from Indian zebu and later European cattle brought south by Nguni-speaking peoples during their migrations, and is now found across South Africa, Eswatini, Namibia, Zimbabwe, Botswana and Angola. It is a medium-sized animal with a low hump ahead of the front legs, a strikingly multi-coloured and patterned coat, a black-tipped nose, and variable horn shapes. Nguni cattle are prized among Southern Africas Bantu-speaking communities for both cultural and economic reasons rather than for any single specialised output, and are noted for fertility and disease resistance suited to grazing the highveld.
