Tharparkar Cattle

The Tharparkar is an indigenous zebu breed of cattle from the Indian subcontinent, originating in Tharparkar District in Sindh province, now part of Pakistan, and also found in India, where it is known as White Sindhi, Cutchi or Thari. It is a medium to large dual-purpose breed known for both milking and draught work, with medium upward-curving horns, large semi-pendulous ears, a light grey coat that deepens toward the fore and hindquarters in males, and a white stripe along the backbone. Adult males weigh 400 to 500 kilograms and females 300 to 380 kilograms, and the breed is well adapted to the extreme heat and feed scarcity of the Thar Desert, where adequate grazing exists for only a few months after the summer monsoon.
