Ongole Cattle

The Ongole is an Indian breed of zebu cattle from Prakasam District in Andhra Pradesh, named for the city of Ongole and the southernmost of the short-horned zebu breeds. Bulls stand about 150 centimeters tall and weigh around 570 kilograms, are predominantly white or light grey with short stumpy horns, and are used as draught animals and in traditional bull racing and bullfighting. The breed has been highly influential outside India, having contributed heavily to the American Brahman in the United States and to Brazil's Nelore breed, which now numbers in the millions, and it has also been distributed to Cuba and Indonesia.
