Rathi Cattle

The Rathi is an Indian breed of dairy cattle from the Thar Desert region of Rajasthan, particularly the Bikaner, Ganganagar and Jaisalmer districts, with a strong presence in Lunkaransar tehsil. It takes its name from the nomadic Rath people, who move their cattle with the available pasture and water and depend on selling cattle, ghee and milk for their living; the breed is usually brown with white patches, and produces around 1,530 kilograms of milk over a 309-day lactation at 5.3 percent fat. As of 2022 its population was estimated between about 878,852 and 1,169,828 head, and both the FAO and DAD-IS list it as not at risk.
