Murray Grey Cattle

The Murray Grey is an Australian breed of polled beef cattle that originated between 1905 and 1917 in the upper Murray River valley on the border of New South Wales and Victoria, descending from a chance mating of a black Aberdeen Angus bull and a roan Shorthorn cow. Grey, silver or dun in color and resembling the Angus from which it largely derives, it is naturally hornless with dark skin pigmentation that helps guard against eye cancer and sunburn; bulls weigh 780 to 860 kilograms and cows 500 to 680 kilograms. Known for a docile, easy-to-handle temperament, good feed conversion and heat tolerance as well as strong performance in snow country, it has been exported to Canada, New Zealand, South America, the United Kingdom, the United States and South Africa.
