Bull

Cattle and Cattle Breeds

A bull is an intact, uncastrated adult male of the species Bos taurus, more muscular and aggressive than female cattle. Farms keep the few bulls needed for herd reproduction, since most male cattle are castrated for meat production, though many modern dairy operations now rely on artificial insemination instead of keeping a bull on hand because of the danger of handling one. A bull typically reaches slaughter weight one or two months sooner than a castrated male or a female and yields proportionately more, leaner muscle, and the animal plays a wider cultural role in beef ranching, dairy farming, bullfighting, and bull riding.
