Kachchhi Camel

Kachchhi Camel is a breed of dromedary camel native to the Kutch region of the western Indian state of Gujarat, one of the breeds documented and studied by India's National Research Centre on Camel. It is a regionally adapted desert and semi-arid camel type, historically used by the pastoral communities of Kutch for pack transport, riding and milk production in a landscape of salt marshes and dry grassland bordering the Rann of Kutch. The Kutch region is also home to the distinct Kharai camel, a separate breed noted for swimming into coastal mangrove creeks to forage, and the Kachchhi is generally distinguished from it as the more typical, non-swimming inland camel type of the same district. It remains one of the named Indian dromedary breeds kept and studied for conservation today.
